There was also pre-Islamic 'Saracen' (i.e. So at least there is precedent, and possibly this was an inspiration. Counts as a Race Lift, as "Bedwyr" appears in the oldest Celtic layers of the mythos. Granted, Londinium appears to be a trade city, which historically did have diverse populations, so this could in fact be one of the few things in the film that actually is historically accurate (in Roman Britain, some black Africans did live there, and into the medieval era too). Black Vikings: The film doesn't even attempt to be historically accurate so there are a few non-European characters around.Big "NO!": Blue's reaction to his father's murder. The Beastmaster: The Mage can take control of one type of animal at a time, resulting in her eyes taking the same shape as those she commands.Bat Out of Hell: The Darklands are a saturnine world that harbors a lot of vicious oversized beasts, one of which is a species of bats the size of a small plane with a taste for humans and the strength to carry off a grown man with no effort whatsoever.Badass Longcoat: Arthur wears a fur-lined tan number that looks surprisingly modern.Awesome Moment of Crowning: The final scenes consist mainly of Arthur's gang knighting each other, naming Arthur himself King of England, and eventually, Arthur receiving the crown in front of his cheering populace. He ends up defeating Mordred one on one despite Mordred's magical abilities. ![]() Authority Equals Asskicking: Uther charges into the fight even as his soldiers are turning to flee in fear and the bridge he his riding own collapses under his horse's feet.Asskicking Equals Authority: Having defeated Uther, Arthur gets the Vikings to Kneel Before Zod after they realise he can't be intimidated into keeping their previous treaty. It utterly curbstomps everyone in the room and then leaves again without having suffered a single visible injury. The final battle involves a titanic snake sent by the Mage to lend a captured Arthur a hand against Vortigern's goons. They carry building-sized siege structures on their backs, and the only way to stop them is killing their summoners. The War Elephants are magical creatures so enormous they would give most Kaijus a run for their money. During the chase through the streets of Londinium however, the blacklegs fire signal arrows into the air which explode in a cloud of black smoke to show which way the resistance are fleeing. Arrows on Fire: Surprisingly for such a movie they are used for funerals rather than battles.Animal Motifs: Vortigern's army has a thing for ravens, as shown by their Shoulders of Doom, while Vortigern himself adds a beetle design to his crown and armor.

![]() To prevent getting few or no flowers, make sure your Easter cactus isn’t exposed to any light at all during the night in the months before the blooming period. ![]() Instead, provide bright but indirect light and possibly a little early morning or late evening sun.Įaster cactus blooming is triggered by both light and temperature. Schlumbergera gaertneriĮaster cactus light, location and temperature Lightīecause Easter cacti naturally occur in forests where most direct sunlight is blocked out by larger trees, they don’t appreciate being exposed to the sun’s scorching afternoon rays. Now, it’s been moved back to Schlumbergera, although it’s still often referred to as Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri. It was first classified as an Ephiphyllum (another jungle cactus), then as Schlumbergera, then as Rhipsalis, Epiphyllopsis, Rhipsalidopsis and then Hatiora. Their growth pattern (on trees and rocks) and natural habitat mean they require different care than their desert cousins: more water and less light.Įaster cactus care is similar to that of other ‘seasonal’ cacti from the Schlumbergera genus, which bloom during Wintertime.ĭid you know? The Easter cactus has been through a lot of scientifical confusion. Keep reading for everything you need to know about Easter cactus care and growing Easter cacti at home! Name(s) (common, scientific)Įaster cactus, Spring cactus, Whitsun cactus, Schlumbergera gaertneri (formerly Hatiora gaertneri, sometimes incorrectly Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri)Ĭontrary to many of the other succulents we commonly keep as houseplants, Easter cacti are epiphytic and naturally occur in Brazilian rainforests. Many people just buy this plant for a pop of color on the Easter brunch table, but with the right care your Easter cactus can actually thrive and rebloom for many more years. Its common name refers to its blooming time: lovely pink or white flowers should appear during late Spring. Schlumbergera gaertneri (along with cultivars Schlumbergera x graeseri and rosea) is better known as Easter cactus. This means that the individual who intends to test numerous rounds will have to bring a lot of water to the range. (Photo: Jason Wimbiscus)Įach centerfire rifle or pistol round tested will usually destroy several water jugs. Using water jugs for testing may make you feel a little like a hillbilly (as if that’s a bad thing), but the truth is they are cheap, easily obtained testing materials, appropriate for a whole host of loads. The primary disadvantages to testing with water are weight, disposal issues, and lack of record of a damage cavity left by the bullet. Rows of plastic jugs or bags full of water are one of the least expensive options available for terminal performance testing. The following are some of the media options available to the backyard ballistician and a summary of my experience with each. Each of these has advantages and disadvantages. Non-professional ammo testers traditionally employ a variety of test materials to accomplish their goals. In the case of hunting and most personal defense ammo, such a test media should be something soft but of sufficient density to approximate organic tissue. It therefore makes sense to test such projectiles by firing them into a material that closely approximates what they will be used on during real world application. Projectile diameter, projectile composition, and even projectile shape can have a tremendous influence on how the projectile performs after it impacts a target. The results obtained through such informal testing are also useful since the math associated with a given round is not necessarily indicative of how it will perform when it hits an organism. Shooting is fun and so is examining recovered bullets and damaged test materials. The same personality traits that drew me to melt glass bottles in campfires as a child drew me to fire bullets into soft media as an adult. Terminal performance testing is a hobby in and of itself.Īdmittedly, part of the appeal of terminal performance testing is simply a fascination with what happens to materials when they are subjected to extreme conditions. The short answer is, while I could spend endless hours on the internet compiling data from tests that have already been conducted by others, I find it’s much more fun and rewarding to conduct tests myself. The naysayers also point out that manufacturers generally conduct extensive terminal performance tests of their own and that my own backyard endeavors are likely redundant exercises. After all, manufacturers of ammunition and reloading components publish an endless stream of ballistic data on their products detailing trajectories, muzzle velocities, and kinetic energies. On a few occasions I have been asked by incredulous gun curmudgeons why I waste my time, energy and money on terminal performance testing. Just be careful not to get wax on anything valuable. Lined up wax blocks of set dimensions create an easy to read ballistic testing material. ![]() In other news Clark Gregg, who plays agent Coulson, recently posted a photo from the comic book of Coulson and Hawkeye squaring off, leading many to speculate Hawkeye will be making an apperance on Agent of Shield.
